The RTX429 ARINC 429 ISA board is a powerful multichannel ARINC 429 Testing and Simulation system, consisting of 3 parts; the ARINC 429 ISA Multichannel board, the RTX429 API, and the RTXMENU Program

The RTX429 ISA board is a full size board that plugs into an ISA slot of any PC compatible computer. It is configurable with up to 24 ARINC 429 Channels. The board can be purchased from 2 channels (1 Transmit and 1 Receive channel) to any combination of up to 24 channels (16 Transmit channels and 8 receive channels). The Software included with the RTX429 ISA board consists of 2 parts: the RTX429 API library, and the RTXMENU Program.

Designed for the testing and simulation applications where multiple channels are necessary (or anticipated in the future), this system can be upgraded, at a future time, with additional channels for slightly more than the cost of the added channels. The RTX429 ISA board offloads from the host processor, output scheduling processing. One call by the host processor, and the periodic resending of data on any or all channels is handled by the on-board processor on the RTX429 ISA  board. The programmer need never communicate directly with the processor on the RTX429 ISA board, and is never involved with sending commands to the hardware. Instead through a set of simple 'C' calls to the RTX429 Applications Program Library (API) the programmer can cause the RTX429 ISA board to transmit any ARINC word on any channel (once or periodically). Similarly, a 'C' call to the RTX429 API will retrieve either ( at the programmer's option) one ARINC word, all buffered ARINC words, or all ARINC words from any channel.

All channels can operate simultaneously (input and output) and can operate in both low speed and high speed modes.

Incoming Data

The RTX429 ISA board has 512 Kilobytes of local RAM on-board, which can buffer up to 7,500 incoming ARINC words. This removes from the programmer the real-time requirement to process the incoming data before the next incoming data word arrives. Incoming data can be accessed one word at a time, one channel at a time or all buffered data. All incoming data is reported with the received channel number and a time tag, accurate to within 1 millisecond. Incoming data can be filtered so that only a specific channel is reported and/or only a specific label (or a set of labels) will be reported (on a per channel basis). Also, at any time, the latest received data value for any label and any channel can be easily accessed. All of the processing associated with the reception of the data, the filtering, time tagging, and the buffering of the data is handled automatically by the processor on the RTX429 ISA board.

Outgoing Data

The RTX429 ARINC 429 ISA board can send and receive any   labels with any data. Some channels can be transmitting while others are receiving at the same time. Some channels can be high speed, and some channels can be low speed at the same time. Any ARINC word can be sent out to any channel once, or on a periodic basis (any multiple of 1 Millisecond periodicity). Also a stream of ARINC words (up to 256 ARINC words) can be sent out once or on a periodic basis, by any channel. The RTX429 ISA board processor will automatically handle the scheduling and retransmitting of any periodic ARINC data that is specified, until you tell it to stop.

The Menu Program

The RTXMENU Program is a full featured program which allows the user to access most of the capabilities of the RTX429 ISA board. The non programmer user can use the menu program to output any ARINC word or any stream of ARINC words on any channel, at any repetition rate, at either high speed or low speed. The user can also receive and have displayed on the screen any incoming ARINC data, from any receive channel, and will allow incoming data filtering (only display the requested labels). The RTXMENU Program is provided in an executable form and also in 'C' code, so that a programmer may use this working program (no royalties), as an example of the details of how to make RTX429 API calls.
